Buona sera da Firenze 🇮🇹 The past week I had a blast. Simonetta taught me how to clean, wash, and restore old papers in her atelier in Florence. Can’t wait for next week when she will show me how to repair leather and parchment damages on antiquarian books. But for now I will explore & enjoy the city of Florence during the weekend. And when in Italy never forget to eat a good pasta and enjoy the wine (last pic). Our hometown Wageningen played an important role at the end of the Second World War. The ‘Orders to German commanders on surrender’ were signed by the Canadian Army Officer Charles Foulkes and the German Generaloberst Johannes Blaskowitz in Wageningen on the 6th of May 1945. Last week I had the opportunity to study this original document in real life. Every year we still celebrate Liberation Day in Wageningen (and the rest of the country) on the 5th of May.
