Our hometown Wageningen played an important role at the end of the Second World War. The ‘Orders to German commanders on surrender’ were signed by the Canadian Army Officer Charles Foulkes and the German Generaloberst Johannes Blaskowitz in Wageningen on the 6th of May 1945. Last week I had the opportunity to study this original document in real life. Every year we still celebrate Liberation Day in Wageningen (and the rest of the country) on the 5th of May.
