Description

“Partington IV,834.: “”He established the formula of nitrogen trichloride. In this dangerous research Gattermann wore thick leather gloves and says:, Es ist mehrfach vorgekommen, dass der Scheiderichter, in welchem ich den Chlostickstoff reinigte, in meiner Hand explodierte. Allein ausser einigen ganz unbedeutenden Contusionen habe ich keinen Schaden erlitten.’ With Pfitzinger he showed that primuline, discovered by A.G. Green (1887), is a derivative of thiazole, and prepared thiazoles from diazonium compounds. Gattermann and W. Haussknecht modified the Sandmeyer reaction by using Copper powder and fuming hydrochloric acid”” – Gattermann’s own copy. Including his dissertation and his in 1888 published paper: “” Zur Kenntnis des Chlorstickstoffes”” (Darmstaedter 863), The first isolation and analysis of pure nitrogen trichloride. Mostly original offprints from the “” Berichten der deutschen chemischen Gesellschaft””. Most probably from the library of Gattermann with all his publications? All first editions. Bugge II,387. “
