Description
Door E. Bekker, wed. A. Wolff. Buijnsters 49; ‘De Proeve van de Opvoeding’ by Betje Wolff (1738-1804) is a booklet from the end of the eighteenth century, addressed to mothers. It was very progressive at the time, with a positive appreciation for woman and child and a call to replace the often brutal parenting methods at that time with reasonableness and understanding for the development of the child. The language was simple and is therefore still easy to follow for us in the twenty-first century. With a foreword in rhyme by Wolff’s girlfriend and roommate Aagje Deken (1741-1804).
